The idea for this pattern was to use the typical seven-segments LED display design as the basis for a geometric pattern, and to create an algorithm capable of varying the main geometric features along the surface without breaking the pattern continuity and producing a SubD-compatible output.
Starting with an input mesh, the parametric model creates a tile with four half-segments for each quad face: in this way it is possible to adapt the pattern to any shape while keeping the dimensions under control (more images to come soon).
One of the obvious applications is the integration of a LED display into a large surface.
Wall Clock or Clock Wall?
Bringing this idea to the extreme, the image shows a minimalistic LED wall clock completely integrated into a wall pattern.
